E-Cigarettes were designed as a less harmful alternative to smoking, but they have only been around for around 20 years now so the market is still developing. With more studies being conducted on vaping, we are getting a sense of how useful they are for quitting smoking and some of the long term effects. The problem we have is the vast differences between E-Cigarettes produced in different countries and the regulations those products are working to, as many studies use a variety of vaping products that may not be meeting the standards set out by the MHRA. So far, Public Health England maintains that E-Cigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking, even though around 4 in 10 smokers think that vaping is as harmful or worse than smoking!

The disposable vape range that use nic salt are mainly produced in Asia, so we have less of an idea about the ingredients used for flavourings, but it does appear that nic salt e-liquids use 3 to 4 times the amount of flavourings typically used in e-liquids that use freebase nicotine. With the flavourings being responsible for the small amount of volatile compounds formed in the vaping process, it would indicate that e-liquids that use less flavouring will carry a reduced risk compared with nic salt disposables.
